BEER RUN OF THE WEEK: WILL ANY OF THESE CENTRAL AMERICAN BEERS BE AS HARMONIOUS WITH OUR “I LOVE MICHELADAS” MIXES AS WELL AS KANYE WEST’S RELATIONSHIP WITH HIMSELF?
Just in case you don’t know who you are, where you’re at or what day it is…… all you need to know is that today is FRIDAY!!!!! The best day of the week…. according to us! Feel free to challenge us. Regardless of which day of the week is your favorite, may your day be filled with positive vibes and greatness.
Before we get into our BEER RUN OF THE WEEK details, let me “copy and paste” a very important paragraph from our very first BEER RUN exercise about a month ago. It will make things a bit clearer. This is also a great opportunity to let you know that this blog has nothing to do with Kanye. Our apologies if our title mislead you.
THE “COPIED AND PASTED” VERY IMPORTANT PARAGRAPH:
We know that “time is money” and that you value your free time. With that idea in mind, we are starting this biweekly exercise, in which we select 3 random beers and we’ll let you know if they are perfect (or not) for micheladas! We want to save you time, money and effort by just letting you know what you should try and perhaps what beer you should avoid. We are not beer sommeliers nor are we experts of any kind… we just enjoy drinking micheladas especially if it’s for very important research purposes. We will do our best to keep it real and just provide honest feedback from our very own tasting experience.
Our apologies AGAIN if that was your third time reading that paragraph because you had already read our very first BEER RUN that was published a month ago (as well as our second one, about 2 week ago). Thank you for still taking the time to read our blogs! It’s great to know that this blog isn’t only being read by our judgy abuelitas concerned about our excessive micheladas consumption. (¡Calmese, abuelita! Calmada por favor.) Alright, let’s get to the choppaaaaaaa……. no, we meant…. beer!
This week we went ahead and sent our still unexperienced, lost, adrift and clumsy beer selector back to Ramirez Beverage Center on Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. After several hours of looking through endless fridges full of various beers, he decided to pick three Central American beers. The countries being represented this week are: Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El Salvador. (So basically, it was a battle between the Nicaraguan singer/composer Luis Enrique, the Costa Rican singer/actress Maribel Guardia and the Salvadoran singer/composer Alvaro Torres! I don’t know about you, but this seems like it would be a great “Celebrity Deathmatch” episode.) For the record, this is the first BEER RUN OF THE WEEK, in which the beers of three countries battle it out to become the champion!
Yes, giving out medals here at our “I Love Micheladas” headquarters is our thing! Based on how well the three beers tasted with our “I Love Micheladas” mix, they were either given a gold, silver or bronze medal. Of course, a gold medal is the best, a silver medal is considered second place and a bronze medal is the third and last place. Please let it be known that receiving a bronze medal is not a bad thing at all….. it just means that two other beers had a stronger connection with our "I Love Micheladas" mixes. With that said, these are the beer picks for this week and their respective medals:
GOLD MEDAL WINNER
IMPERIAL (Costa Rica)
This Costa Rican lager was a surprise for our taste buds! It was refreshing and it definitely left us wanting more. It was tried with our Red Mix, as well as our OG Brown Mix. It paired extremely well with both. This beer along with our OG Brown mix is perfect for those that enjoy a michelada that allows you to taste the beer it’s made with it. The spiciness of the mix made the perfect balance of flavor for any type of palate. The Red Mix created a michelada that wasn’t as strong since the tomato flavor took over. However, the michelada created with our Red Mix can still be enjoyed by anyone who just wants a tasty drink that will leave them satisfied. Regardless of what miche mix is used for this beer, you will be drinking more than just one cup. We want to congratulate Imperial and Costa Rica on its much deserved GOLD MEDAL!
SILVER MEDAL WINNER
CERVEZA SUPREMA (El Salvador)
Cerveza Suprema is a Euro-style lager that’s perfect for those in need of a bitter tasting drink. Our Red Mix worked great with this beer since it balanced out the bitterness with its delicious tomato flavor. For some reason, the spicy nature of the OG Brown Mix seemed to elevate its bitterness. If you're into the bitter type drinks, this one is for you. It does all come down to what one prefers when enjoying a michelada. Ultimately, we felt that even though the Red Mix was best for this type of beer…. it can work with both of our mixes. For that reason, this is a lager from El Salvador that should be proud of its SILVER MEDAL! (¡Arriba las pupusas!)
BRONZE MEDAL WINNER
TOÑA CERVEZA (Nicaragua)
This smooth premium lager worked perfectly with both our Red Mix and OG Brown mix because of its flavor that was earthy and organic. It has a taste that is worth noting and considering for future gatherings. It needs to be noted that an extremely satisfying and savory michelada was created when Toña Cerveza was paired with our OG Brown mix! The flavor of the beer wasn’t as strong when combined with the Red mix, which is preferred by some though. Overall, this is the perfect cerveza if you don’t like the very strong beer flavor while enjoying a michelada. We are proud to present this Nicaraguan beer with a much deserved BRONZE MEDAL.
(PLEASE INSERT VERY LOUD CLAPPING AND WHISTLING HERE FOR ALL THE MEDAL RECIPIENTS AS “LA BALA” BY LOS HERMANOS FLORES PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND.)
In conclusion, the three beers in this group proudly represented their home countries when paired with our “I Love Micheladas” mixes. Please keep in mind that everyone has different exceptions when creating their Michelada. Some like it bitter, some more spicy, while others just want a strong tomato flavor. Regardless what your expectations are, our miche mixes get the job done succesfully! It's a matter of just finding the right beer for you. Go out and support these beer companies because they all proudly represent us!
In case you weren't aware, our “I Love Micheladas” products can be purchased at your local latino supermarkets or can be ordered online by visiting www.ilovemicheladas.com/collections/products. Try them out and let us know if you agree or disagree!

(Kanye, you’re insane but you’re a musical genius. We are anxiously ready for your album to drop.)
